MRDC Continues to commit to Resource Management and Community Engagement after 50 Years of Commitment

“Reflecting on our 50 years, we recognize that success cannot solely be measured by royalties and dividends. Instead, it is crucial to focus on the tangible improvements in health, education, and social indicators for our landowners and host provinces,” stated Agustine Mano, Managing Director of MRDC.
As a pivotal player in the resource sector, MRDC oversees several significant projects, ensuring that local communities benefit from the wealth generated by the country’s natural resources. The company’s portfolio encompasses a variety of initiatives designed to foster genuine partnerships with local landowners, provincial governments, and industry operators, reinforcing its commitment to the long-term well-being of communities throughout Papua New Guinea.
One of the standout initiatives that MRDC is proud to highlight is its ongoing partnership with the Santos Foundation, which has vastly improved health service delivery in Hela, Southern Highlands, and Gulf provinces. This collaboration emphasizes MRDC’s belief in leveraging private sector expertise to enhance governance and accountability, resulting in better health outcomes for the regions involved.
“Achieving long-term prosperity requires inclusive partnerships and long-term capital,” Mr. Pomaleu said.
PNG CORE President Anthony Smare highlighted that the redesigned program reflects PNG’s readiness for diversified global investment. “PNG is open, capable, and ready for broad-based international investment,” he said, noting the forum’s expanded focus on infrastructure, agriculture, finance, digital innovation, and renewable energy.
Day one program features:
PNG Regulators Forum – addressing business-enabling reforms and improving regulatory clarity.
Resources Outlook – providing updates on major national projects including Papua LNG, Pasca A, and Frieda River.
Climate and Infrastructure Summits – spotlighting renewable energy, connectivity, and power sector priorities.
Suppliers Forum – discussing strategy, build relationships, and address challenges like supply chain risks, innovation, and performance
In a forward-thinking development, MRDC has also signed a strategic agreement with the provincial government and ExxonMobil. This partnership aims to deliver five megawatts of low-cost power to landowners in Hela Province by 2026. This transformative project is expected to provide reliable electricity to over 50,000 households, schools, and health centers, significantly enhancing the quality of life for residents in the region.
“True progress is rooted in partnerships built on mutual respect and trust, particularly with landowners who play an integral role in the success of resource development in Papua New Guinea,” added Mano.
“As we look to the future, MRDC remains dedicated to nurturing these partnerships and advancing sustainable practices that benefit both the company and the communities we serve.”
